When we arrived in Sihanoukville there were a few taxi stands that offered the same price of $5 per head to the town. We didn’t want to pay that much but there was nothing else in sight. We managed to get them down to $15 for 4 people. On the drive we straight away notice how much poorer the people looked here. We drove past tin shacks, wooden shacks and rubbish everywhere.
Our accommodation Otres Long Beach 1, was located on Otres Beach 2. The main town is Sihanoukville City but we had been recommended Otres Beach a few kilometres up from Sihanoukville past Serendipity Beach. Our area was very quiet with a few restaurants and a few shops but not really a lot going on.
We walked along the beach a few kilometres to Otres Beach 1 which had more going on, in terms of bars and restaurants. We basically spent the day on the beach relaxing, swimming in the crystal clear water and the boys enjoyed a few beers.
Warning! There are minimal ATMs in Otres, and there weren’t any located where we were staying. Luckily, the boys had got cash out in the airport but when we needed to get more money one of the ATMs touch screen wasn’t working and the other ATM located about 50ms down the road, only accepted certain cards. It also had a big queue outside so I can imagine these run out of cash quickly. The tuk-tuk drivers hoping to make a few extra dollars also told us that there were no more ATMs in Otres Beach 1, luckily we had asked someone on a hotel reception and they had pointed us down the road.
Lots of people hire scooters here to ride up and down the main road into town, but we opted to do nothing and relax on the beach. It didn’t seem there was a lot to do here apart from the beach so we excitedly booked our tickets to Koh Rong Island through out accommodation.
